n March 2007, Versailles was formed by Kamijo (Lareine), Hizaki (Sulfuric Acid, HIZAKI grace project) and Jasmine (Jyakura, HIZAKI grace project). Then Teru (Aikaryu) and Yuki (Sugar Trip), who were recommended by the "Rock May Kan" join the group.

Kamijo and Hizaki created the concept of Versailles in the fall of 2006 and spent six months looking for members. They seek the "Absolute Youshikibi" (beauty of the form of sound and extreme aestheticism).

In March 2007, the composition of the group was announced. A promotional video was broadcast on the Internet, an English page was created on MySpace and many interviews were given in the foreign press.

Versailles made their first appearance on June 23, followed by their first performance on June 24 At the same time, they also distributed their first single and DVD single, The Revenant Choir.

The group signed a contract with the German CLJ Records label and released his first mini-album, Lyrical Sympathy on October 31, both in Japan and Europe. Their song, The Love From A Dead Orchestra also appears on the compilation album, released by Sony BMG in Germany on November 9, Tokyo Rock City.

In 2008, Versailles started in the US with a concert on May 30th at Project A-Kon in Dallas, Texas, the 3rd June and at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles, California. It was reported on the personal blog of Jasmine You and Teru : the concert at Project A-Kon welcomed more than 3,000 people, and the concert at the Knitting Factory was completely sold out. In France, the group went for the first time the 6th April, 2008 at Loco.

On 9th July, 2008, Versailles will release their first full album, NOBLE.

Shortly after, however, another group (American), also called Versailles, had registered the name, which has forced the Japanese group to change its name. But eventually, they will change their name just for their tour on United-States, which will name "Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet-."

In appreciation of the effort produced by the band's fans to find them a new name, the group composed a title called "PRINCE", available for free on their official website.

On 12th December 2008, the band released the first single as Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet- : PRINCE & PRINCESS, available in a regular edition, and 5 limited editions, each of the five editions corresponding to a group member.

Sad new for fans, the band officially announced on 9th August 2009, the death of bassist Jasmine You. We still do not know the cause of his death. But according to rumors, his death would be due to his health problems.
He was only 30 years old.

To date, no cause of death has been specified, either by his family or by the group.

On 27th October 2010, Versailles released the new single : DESTINY - The Lovers -. It's an opportunity to present the new bassist Masashi, although other members of the group had said, a few months ago before, that they did not think Jasmine replace currently. On 9th March 2011, Versailles released the single Philia with a new clip, and a series of episodes of a series called "Onegaikanaete Versailles." All these successive outputs are prior that of the third album, Holy Grail, on 15th June 2011.

In February 2017 their long awaited reunion tour will happen!
